What we think of the new Yamaha GC1 TA2 TransAcoustic grand piano

The GC1 grand piano is the most obvious 'upgrade' from the Yamaha GB1 grand piano. At 5'3'' the instrument is larger, and this alone is enough to give the instrument more depth, especially in the lower registers. However, Yamaha also incorporate a host of more refined design changes in this model. The GC1 benefits from 'duplex scaling' which is a method of bringing out a fuller tone from a piano by tuning what are known as the 'non-speaking' parts of the string. The GC1 is also the first in the Yamaha grand piano range to be made at the main production facility in Japan.

Yamaha's incredible TransAcoustic2 system allows you to not only play silently through headphones but also to use the pianos naturally resonant soundboard as a speaker. A digital sample of the Yamaha CFX and Bosendorfer Imperial concert grands is transmitted via specially configured transducers attached to the soundboard, vibrating the soundboard and bridges to reproduce the digital sound, effectively turning the large wooden soundboard into a speaker. You can turn down the volume, layer other sounds (of which there are 20!) on top of the acoustic piano for added ambience or plug in some headphones to practice privately - the choice is yours!

The Yamaha CFX sample has Yamaha's acclaimed Binaural Sampling giving an incredibly 'acoustic' sound through headphones, like the piano is in front of you rather than right in your ears. Virtual Resonance Modelling technology borrowed from Yamaha's Clavinova range of digital pianos brings an unprecedented level of natural resonance making the digital sound virtually indistinguishable from the real thing.

With Bluetooth for audio streaming and compatibility with Yamaha Smart Pianist app along with many others, the new TransAcoustic TA2 system is a versatile tool which combines the best features of a digital piano with the inimitable resonance and feel of an acoustic instrument.
