Introducing the Used Yamaha U1N Upright Piano c.2000

A perennial favourite among discerning pianists, the 121cm tall Yamaha U1 offers outstanding musical performance, defining the standards by which other upright pianos are measured. A perfect combination of outstanding engineering and attentive craftsmanship, the U1 is a reliable and robust instrument that is used and trusted by amateur and professional musicians all over the world.


This piano is a rare U1N, produced at the Kemble factory in England and finished in a fabulous dark mahogany veneer with brass fittings. These British made instruments have a wonderfully warm, resonant tone and are highly sought after second hand.


Purchased new from Chamberlain Pianos in c.2000, this example has been meticulously maintained and remains in wonderful condition throughout.

Design heritage and expertise

The Yamaha U Series has been 65 years in the making and these new, improved models are better than ever before. Improvements include a redesigned scaling and frame for improved power and consistency, along with structural enhancements to improve stability and longevity. A long music desk is ideal for those longer scores or individual sheets.

Superior component quality and refinement

While most Yamaha U Series pianos are crafted at Yamaha's main factory in Hamamatsu, Japan, for a relatively short time some were produced by Yamaha-Kemble in England at the Kemble factory. As a combination of Japanese precision engineered components and British cabinet building and veneering, the U1N is a beautifully engineered instrument with a timelessly elegant appearance.

Specially selected hammers

Refined lambs wool hammers are specially selected for Yamaha U Series uprights, which have a layer of under-felt to enhance the warmth of tone and also ensure the hammers stand up to a lifetime of playing.

Soft-closing fallboard

The Yamaha U Series is the first series in the Yamaha lineup to feature a soft-closing lid or fallboard. A luxurious feature previously only found on grand pianos and means no more trapped fingers!

Low maintenance costs

Each instrument leaves Yamaha workshops in optimum condition, with the highest level of quality control and ready for a lifetime of service. Each Yamaha U Series upright is prepared by our in house technical team to ensure it delivers optimum performance.
