Introducing the Yamaha U1 Upright Piano c.2006

Still a current model in Yamaha's range, the Yamaha U1 is a perennial favourite among pianists and teachers and defines the standards by which other upright pianos are measured. A perfect combination of outstanding engineering and attentive craftsmanship, the U1 is a reliable and robust instrument that is used and trusted by amateur and professional musicians all over the world.

A handsome instrument in an elegant polished ebony cabinet with brass fittings, the piano also benefits from a soft-closing fallboard preventing trapped fingers - a must in an institutional setting.

With specially selected hammers and a solid spruce soundboard, coupled to a well engineered and responsive action mechanism, the U1 is a highly capable piano and well suited to beginner or advanced pianist.

This example of the Japanese-built Yamaha U1 was made in 2006 and has been privately owned, remaining in superb overall condition, and has just been comprehensively serviced by our technical team.

Design heritage and expertise

The Yamaha U Series has been 65 years in the making and these new, improved models are better than ever before. Improvements include a redesigned scaling and frame for improved power and consistency, along with structural enhancements to improve stability and longevity. A long music desk is ideal for those longer scores or individual sheets.

Superior component quality and refinement

The Yamaha U Series is crafted at Yamaha's main factory in Hamamatsu, Japan by the same craftsmen who produce the class leading CX Series grand pianos. Wooden components come from Yamaha's wood processing plant in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, including the solid Alaskan spruce soundboard. These parts are specially selected for maturity and harmonic quality.

Specially selected hammers

Refined lambs wool hammers are specially selected for Yamaha U Series uprights, which have a layer of under-felt to enhance the warmth of tone and also ensure the hammers stand up to a lifetime of playing.

Soft-closing fallboard

The Yamaha U Series is the first series in the Yamaha lineup to feature a soft-closing lid or fallboard. A luxurious feature previously only found on grand pianos and means no more trapped fingers!

Low maintenance costs

Remarkably well engineered and incredibly robust, early Yamaha U series pianos can be found in practice rooms and private homes all over the world, many of them in original condition and still delivering top quality performance.
