Responsive Hammer III key action

Responsive Hammer III keyboard action has been developed to recreate the touch feeling of playing a Kawai grand piano. Each key is authentically weighted using metal hammers, also allowing released keys to return to their original position without the aid of springs, resulting in a smooth, natural playing experience.

It also features Kawai’s Ivory Touch key surfaces that gently absorb finger moisture to assist the player’s performance, while, let-off simulation recreates the subtle ‘notch’ sensation felt when softly playing the keys of a grand piano, satisfying the expectations of the most discerning pianists.

Creating the sound of a grand piano

The CN301 captures the magnificent tone of the flagship Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano. In addition, the CN301 also features the distinctive sound of Kawai’s highly acclaimed EX concert grand piano, which has been selected by professional pianists in such prestigious events as the Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Rubinstein international piano competitions, among others.

Both the SK-EX and EX are faithfully reproduced with full 88-key sampling using advanced Progressive Harmonic Imaging™ sound technology, to establish a new standard in digital piano tonal quality, and allow musicians to appreciate the contrasting properties of each.

Versatility in the keys

Alongside the classically voiced SK-EX and EX grand piano sounds, the CN201 also showcases a selection of Jazz, Pop, and Modern variations suitable for a range of musical genres. A traditional Kawai upright piano sound is also included, for pieces that suggest a feeling of nostalgia, or call for a slightly more intimate tonal character.

Developed by Kawai R&D’s highly experienced audio engineering team, the CN301 features a redesigned motherboard and speaker system, and a brand new high quality power adapter. These components combine to deliver best-in-class audio quality, producing an extremely rich, clear sound with minimal distortion. Full range speaker drivers also ensure the most accurate reproduction of the original Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano.

High performance 4 speaker output system

Unrivalled in its price range, the CN301's high-performance 4-speaker output system is designed to reproduce the harmonic spectrum of an acoustic piano. Lower-range frequencies are delivered through the underside of the instrument, while mid and high frequencies are projected outward via top-mounted speakers, resulting in an expansive tone that closely mirrors the sound projection of a grand piano.

Speakers or headphones?

The speakers are more than powerful enough to fill a medium sized room, however when you want to practice at a reduced volume, the CN301’s Low Volume Balance feature intelligently adjusts keyboard touch and piano tone characteristics for quieter passages to be played more naturally.

If you would like to practice in complete silence, the CN301’s Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) technology enhances the depth and realism of the instrument’s sound when listening through headphones or earphones. Perfect for playing at any time of day, or night!
