Introducing the Kawai K-400 Upright Piano

The first model in Kawai's upright lineup to be produced at their main manufacturing facility in Japan, the elegantly styled K-400 measures 122cm tall and benefits from extended key length and solid mahogany hammers.

While the same size as the popular K-300, its grand piano style music desk places the music at eye level, enabling improved posture, with a solid surface for it to rest on too. An elegant soft-close fallboard is double-hinged, retracting into the piano when opened, while the Kawai logo on the front is a brass inlay rather than a transfer.

Like the K-300 and K-500, the K-400 is equipped with Kawai's acclaimed Millennium III ABS-Carbon action for a class leading level of response, and is a great choice for home or school.

Premium quality components

The soundboard and ribs are considered the most important sound producing components of a piano, with both the materials used and the manner in which they are assembled greatly affecting volume and tonal quality. The K-400 soundboard is produced using the finest quality straight-grained spruce, carefully selected and scientifically tested to exceed KAWAI’s demanding resonance standards, ensuring exceptional dynamic range and outstanding tonal balance across the entire sound spectrum.

Superior touch and reliability

The K-400 features the specially developed Millennium III ABS-Carbon upright piano action, combining carbon fibre with ABS to produce a lightweight yet incredibly strong and reliable mechanism. To improve the action’s climatic stability, KAWAI pioneered the use of aluminium action rails, aluminium hammer rest rails and ABS action parts – addressing many of the problems associated with wooden components, such as breakage under continual high stress, and shrinking/swelling due to changes in temperature and humidity. Longer keys make playing easier and provide more even response from the front to the back of the playing surface. The benefits to the player are greater control and more power with less effort.

Sophisticated and contemporary design

With attractive traditional style cabinetry and a double-hinged, soft closing fallboard, the K-400 is equally suited to the home environment and school practice room.

Low maintenance costs

In addition to the exceptionally large solid spruce soundboard, the K-400 also utilises five fully laminated back posts, delivering optimum rigidity and enhanced tuning stability.
