Kawai VPC-1 MIDI piano controller

Kawai’s VPC-1 is a professional MIDI controller specially designed for virtual piano musicians by the industry’s leading developers. Revolutionise your playing experience with the outstanding RM3 Grand II wooden-key keyboard action technology, and enjoy stunning piano-like realism and unparalleled flexibility. This impressive controller also features approved touch curves, USB+MIDI routing, and a dedicated editor for Mac & PC.

This unique device is the first of its kind from any musical instrument manufacturer, drawing upon Kawai’s 85 years of expert knowledge and experience in crafting the world’s finest acoustic and digital pianos. The VPC-1 delivers the ultimate virtual piano experience for home, studio, and stage use.

Plus, the classic design of this virtual piano makes it elegantly blend into any space. With its raised fall-board and curved wooden side arms, the VPC1 adopts a grand piano-like appearance that inspires you to sit down and play. The design is simple yet smart, and the premium build quality makes it a fitting addition to Kawai’s legacy of durable and reliable craftsmanship.

The VPC-1 is what all virtual piano players have been waiting for – a controller built by a real piano company. It’s supplied with the F-30 triple pedal, and includes something which other MIDI controllers overlook: an attachable music rest!

An intuitive design for complete control

There are no distracting knobs or faders getting in the way of your playing, simply turn the VPC-1 on and use the 88 real wooden keys, which have finely textured ivory-like surfaces to absorb moisture and assist player control. The VPC1’s RM3 Grand II keyboard action adopts many of the characteristics of a grand piano keyboard action, the most distinctive of which being the ‘seesaw’ movement of the key, allowing for smooth and consistent motion. The RM3 Grand II also boasts a new triple-sensor key detection system, improving repetition speed, responsiveness, and providing a greater range of expressive tones.

Incredible sounding realism

Experienced virtual piano players appreciate the value of a well-balanced touch curve. That’s why the VPC1 features the same responsive touch curve from Kawai’s highly respected MP10 stage piano, ensuring a superb playing experience. These curves have been lovingly crafted by Kawai's renowned keyboard engineering team and approved by the software developers themselves, ensuring your favourite virtual piano responds just like the real thing! The VPC1 ships with five touch curves stored in memory, with additional presets accessible using the VPC editor software.

Supplied with the F-30 triple pedal

Complementing the VPC1’s ultra-realistic RM3 Grand II action is the included F-30 triple pedal accessory. This sturdily constructed unit recreates the functionality of the damper, sostenuto, and soft pedals of a grand piano, allowing discerning musicians to take full advantage of the unlooped sustain and striking modelled resonances found in modern virtual piano packages.

Customise your setup

The VPC1 is designed to play perfectly right out of the box, but many virtual piano enthusiasts also love to customise, adjust, and tweak every aspect of their setup to their own unique requirements. This is where the VPC Editor software comes in – a dedicated application to create and edit touch curves, adjust individual key velocities, and manage MIDI routing. All changes are stored directly to one of the VPC1's five onboard memories, allowing configurations to be recalled without software, or even without a computer. Download the VPC Editor to play with the software in demo mode.

Flexible connectivity

Connecting the VPC1 to your PC or Mac requires just a single USB cable. It can draw power from the computer's USB bus, reducing cable clutter by doing away with the need for an external AC adaptor. While the VPC1 has been developed primarily for controlling software pianos, standard MIDI jacks are also provided for connecting to hardware sound sources. It's even possible to control separate sound sources simultaneously, adjusting IN/OUT routing for USB and standard MIDI with the VPC Editor software. Let the versatile VPC1 breathe new life into your existing setup!
