Introducing the Kawai GL-20 grand piano
Bridging the gap between Kawai's ever-popular GL-10 and GL-30 grand pianos, the GL-20 is a new addition to our GL series roster for 2025. Although only slightly longer than the entry-level model, the GL-20 boasts compelling refinements that make it well worth considering.
Chief among them is duplex scaling, a tone enhancement system where the "non-speaking" parts of the strings are allowed to vibrate sympathetically, creating a richer and more complex sound. This effect is particularly evident in the high register, adding an extra sparkle to the sound and giving the impression of a larger instrument, defying the GL-20's compact 5'11/2" frame.
The GL-20 also features three solid wooden beams on the underside of the frame (compared to the GL-10’s two), ensuring consistently bolder projection and a fuller tonal presence. Like all GL series models, it benefits from Kawai’s renowned Millennium III action, blending precision engineering with lasting reliability.
For serious amateurs and professionals, the GL-20’s baby grand size makes it a viable option for the home. For schools, universities and performance venues, it is an ideal choice in smaller auditoriums, adaptable performance spaces, and larger practice rooms.
