Yamaha B10 upright piano: Where your piano journey begins

The most compact model in the new 2026 Yamaha B Series, the B10 replaces the popular Yamaha B1 and benefits from a number of refinements which make it a perfect choice for beginners, developing players and those returning to the piano.

Standing at 110cm tall, it is larger than its predecessor and the same size as the Kawai K15, undoubtedly the piano it will most often be compared to in the showroom. Musically, the B10 is remarkably refined and resonant for such a compact instrument, its new 5-backpost design, hammers and spruce core soundboard really making a difference, especially in the bass.

The cabinetry of the B10 really sets it apart from the competition, with an elegant, factory-fit soft-close fallboard and full-length, lined music desk which forms part of the fallboard. The Yamaha logo is a smart brass inlay, while the lid sits atop of the piano, instead of slotting in between the sides of the instrument, also aiding sound projection.

Whether for the home, a teaching environment or regular personal practice, the B10 offers a dependable and musically satisfying introduction to Yamaha’s upright pianos and is highly recommended.

Clear, balanced acoustic tone that develops over time

The B10 has been designed to produce a pure, clearly articulated tone with a natural sense of resonance. Its scale and soundboard design ensure balance across the keyboard, with a warm bass supporting a clear and focused treble.

As the piano is played over time, the natural materials used in its construction begin to mature, allowing the tonal character to develop further. This gradual change gives the instrument a more familiar and expressive voice, supporting long-term enjoyment.

Refined hammer design for clarity, control and sustain

The hammers are processed using a method derived from Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano. By preserving the natural elasticity of the felt, this approach allows each note to sound clearly while maintaining consistent sustain.

This results in a tone that remains stable across all registers, helping both melody and accompaniment to come through with clarity as players develop their technique.

Redesigned soundboard and improved resonance

The soundboard is built using a solid spruce core, chosen for its naturally warm tonal character and ability to resonate freely. This material also offers excellent durability, helping the instrument maintain consistent performance even with changes in humidity and temperature.

The slightly increased cabinet height allows for a larger soundboard and longer bass strings, contributing to a wider dynamic range and a richer, more supportive bass. Five back posts reinforce the structure, helping the soundboard maintain its shape and ensuring consistent resonance over time.

Precision action for consistent performance

The action mechanism consists of over 60 precision components per key, manufactured to extremely fine tolerances. This ensures smooth operation and a responsive touch, allowing players to control dynamics accurately.

Consistent performance across the keyboard supports both early development and more advanced playing over time.

Built for lasting quality and stability

Wood selection and drying are carefully controlled to ensure long-term stability. Yamaha’s seasoning process stabilises moisture content, helping to prevent warping while maintaining tonal consistency.

The frame is designed to withstand over twenty tons of string tension, supporting both structural integrity and acoustic performance, while precision-manufactured tuning pins contribute to reliable tuning stability.

Designed for practical, everyday use

A wide music stand extends across the fallboard, providing stable support for larger scores and improving playing space. Its non-slip surface helps keep sheet music securely in place.

The soft-close fallboard mechanism allows the lid to close gently and safely, protecting hands while maintaining a clean, refined appearance.
