Introducing the Challen baby grand piano c.2004
Challen was a well regarded, historic English piano maker known for their hugely popular baby grand piano, thousands of which were produced here in England in the early part of the 20th Century. They were one of the most prolific of all British makers, and a huge number of these well built and reliable instruments remain in service today.
While the original Challen company ceased production in c.1980, the Challen brand lives on and is now produced at the world's largest piano factory in Guangzhou, China. The GP142 draws on Challen's rich baby grand piano building history, a compact instrument the same size as its ancestor and built using European components.
This piano is a handsome instrument in a high gloss mahogany veneer cabinet with brass fittings. Its design significantly updated from the historic Challen of the 1920's and 30's, this piano benefits from a two position lid prop and sostenuto pedal to enable selective sustain. It has been privately owned and is in superb condition throughout, just serviced by our house technicians and polished to perfection.
A beautiful furniture piece and also a capable acoustic grand piano, the Challen GP142 is an ideal choice for that spot where a grand piano would look perfect but a new Yamaha GB1K or Kawai GL10 baby grand might be just a touch too big.
